NAIT is seeking a service provider to pick up, haul and dispose of waste from NAIT’s three main Capital region campuses – Main Campus, Souch Campus and Patricia Campus as well as various leased property locations.
NAIT’s contract with its current service provider ends on June 30, 2012 and NAIT intends to enter into a new five year contract starting July 1, 2012 and ending on June 30, 2017.
NAIT’s current practice is to separate returnable containers and paper at source. The pickup and return of returnable containers is not part of the current waste removal contract but is contracted separately. Paper is picked up and hauled to a recycling site under the current waste removal contract.
The remainder of the waste is placed into waste containers by NAIT for removal, haul and disposal under the current waste removal contract.
Estimated annual quantities under the current practice are 1,100 tonnes of waste and 44 tonnes of recyclables (paper)
Other than the returnable containers and paper, NAIT’s current waste is disposed of in a landfill.
Under the new contract, NAIT plan is to achieve the following:
• significant diversion of waste from landfill so as to improve NAIT’s sustainability,
• streamline its practices by no longer separating paper at source,
• discontinue ownership of waste containers, and
• get the best overall value for NAIT for waste removal services.
It is not intended that returnable containers be included in the new contract.

SCOPE: waste pick-up, transport, disposal and ownership of accumulated material that is
blocking the outflow from the English Bay and Westridge combined sewer overflow (CSO)
outfalls. The material to be dredged by the Corporation has been tested and found
unsuitable for disposal at sea; therefore land disposal is required. The material to be
removed from English Bay consists of approximately 1500 to 2000 m3 of marine sediment.
The material to be removed from the Westridge site is estimated to include 300 to 500 m3
of marine sediment plus assorted wood debris. The Corporation will deliver the material
on a barge to a suitable off-loading facility provided by the Proponent.
